Mark Mackeben began piano lessons in the second grade and organ studies in the fourth grade. By middle school, he had fully realized his passion for the organ and his vocation to be an organist and organ technician. He completed undergraduate studies in Music Education at Valparaiso University.
He worked for twelve years on the team at Triune Music of Elmhurst, IL starting as an installation technician, and later the Project Coordinator. He contributed to the service, maintenance, and installation of countless church organs in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. It was there that he learned his craft as an organ technician from Steven B. Smith and the late Mark C. Austin. During those years, they made many inspiring digital and pipe-digital hybrid instruments a reality for many midwestern congregations. After moving to Arizona to serve as a music director, he was asked to continue as a technician, and later representative, in collaboration with Anderson Organ Works, for Rodgers Organs and the Global Organ Group in the southwest.
Beyond the technical experience of the organ, he served his high school alma mater as their assistant band director before moving into parish ministry to serve roles as organist and music director in parishes in Illinois and Arizona. He currently serves as Director of Music for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sun City West. There, he plays Arizona’s largest Hybrid pipe organ, comprised of a 5 Manual Custom Rodgers Organ with one hundred and sixty digital stops and twenty-four ranks of pipes.
With a respected career of dual roles in parish musical leadership and organ technology, he is uniquely suited to assist anyone looking to improve and elevate their worship with the organ. Knowing the demands of the parish musician, and the technology of the organ, Mr. Mackeben is well suited to helping the most discerning parish musician find the perfect instrument for their worship needs.
